Part E Residential Approved document E (QS, Air
testing)
Sound Insulation Testing is required by Approved Document E (ADE) of the Building Regulations for new and converted residential properties.
The only exception is new property built according to Robust Details with the appropriate licence fee paid. In all other cases an independent test is required carried out by a company registered by either the Association of Noise Consultants (ANC) or UKAS.
We are registered to provide sound insulation measurement services through the Association of Noise Consultants (ANC) registration scheme.

Only
walls and floors that separate flats and houses
need to be tested, internal walls and floors within
each individual property do not need testing.
Normally one set of tests needs to be carried out for every ten flats or houses where the construction does not vary. Sometimes a change in so-called flanking conditions can count as a change in construction; for example where a flat built in a loft has upstand walls to the eaves.
A set of tests normally includes tests in two locations between habitable rooms; Walls are tested for airborne sound insulation, floors for both airborne and impact noise. Tests cannot be carried out to or from stairwells or corridors.
Please send your project details using the enquiry form or we would be happy to discuss your project on the telephone; no charge is made for quotes.
